57th Ohio Infantry Regiment
Unassigned Recruits ⬅️ Roll of Honor ➡️ Prisoners of War

This page is a part of the 57th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Project. Stop in and contribute if you're interested in helping.

This Roll of Honor consists of those members of the 57th Ohio Infantry Regiment who died during their service.

Ranks shown may not be final if the soldier was given a posthumous promotion. Initial data is taken from the Official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio in the War on the Rebellion.[1] Many of their bodies were brought back home for burial. This is being updated with links to their graves where available. Cause of death can often be found in the Registers of Deaths of Volunteers.[2]

Research Notes

I added Daniel N. Helt to the Roll of Honor, though he does not appear there in the Ohio Roster. As there are no further records of him following his capture, I am assuming he died in captivity or of wounds received in the Battle of Atlanta.

I added Newell E. Staples to the Roll of Honor, though he does not appear there in the Ohio Roster. It seems to be an oversight. The roster lists him as died of disease in the Company G section.

I added John Cunningham to the Roll of Honor, though he does not appear there in the Ohio Roster. He was found in the Register of Deaths of Volunteers.

I added Francis Ripley to the Roll of Honor, though he does not appear there in the Ohio Roster. He was shown as missing, but appears to have been killed.

I added Frederick Boobring. He does not appear on the roster or roll of honor, but pension documents make clear he was a member of Company H.
