History
The Abdell Cemetery was originally located on the farm of George Abdell, who purchased the property in 1808. The land was subsequently sold in 1852 to Purnell Toadvine (wife Zepporah (Fooks) Toadvine) after George's death in 1840. Some sources have referred to this cemetery as the Toadvine cemetery or the Fooks cemetery. Toadvine descendants incorporated the cemetery as Abdell Cemetery in 1993.
Publications
- Harold Slade published a booklet on the Abdell Cemetery in 1992, updated in 2009. He details the headstones as they could be read at that time, and gives information on cemetery preservation efforts as well as his genealogical research. That booklet is available in this PDF.
