By: Thomas Raffles of the parish of St Ann, Blackfriars, London being in good health of body and of mind and memory

  • unto my son John the sum of £5 of good and lawful money
  • unto my daughter Margaret the sum of £40 of like lawful money to be paid unto her by my executors at such times and in such proportions as they in their discretion shall judge most necessary and proper
  • unto my kinswoman Alicia Mills the sum of twenty pounds of like lawful money
  • unto my daughter-in-law Mary Raffles, widow of my late deceased son, Harry Raffles the sum of ten pounds of like lawful money
  • unto my son Thomas my walnutttree desk and bookcase together with the moiety or half part of all my books.
  • unto my son William my mahogany bureau together with the other moiety or half part of all my books
  • the residue to be divided into five equal parts of shares
    • one fifth part or share whereof I give and bequeath to my son Thomas,
    • one other fifth part whereof I give and bequeath unto my son Benjamin,
    • one other fifth part whereof I give and bequeath unto my son William,
    • one other fifth part I give and bequeath unto my daughter Susannah Carter, wife of Ambrose Carter of the Island of Jamaica
    • and the remaining fifth part whereof my will and mind is shall be equally divided between my two granddaughters Elizabeth and Susannah Gaddrer, daughters of my late deceased daughter Elizabeth Gaddrer share and share alike on their attaining the age of 21 years respectively

  • I give to my daughter Margaret Raffles the sum of ten pounds over and above what I have given her in my will
  • to my kinswoman Alicia Mills the like sum of ten pounds over and above what I have given her in my will for her great care of and attendance on me during my late long indisposition

By: Thomas Raffles, late of the parish of St Ann Blackfriars but now of Islington in the county of Middlesex

  • the whole fifty pounds to be paid to margaret as soon as conveniently may be after his death
  • whereas since the making my said will my daughter Susannah Carter, late wife of Ambrose Carter of the Island of Jamaica is departed this life her fiftshare be paid into the hands of their father the said Ambrose Carter to be applied by him for their use and benefit at such times as he shall judge proper for the use and benefit of her six children, viz
