Affidavit of Samuel Veazie, No. Adams (9)
Affidavit of Samuel Veazie, of North Adams in the state of Massachusetts, to be used in an application for the distribution of the personal estate in the matter of the estate of Joseph Veazie, late of Providence in the state of Rhode Island, deceased.
Samuel Veazie, being duly sworn, deposeth and saith:
My name is Samuel Veazie. I reside in North Adams in the state of Massachusetts, and am fifty seven (57) years of age. My mother's name was Mary Veazie. She was a daughter of John Veazie, formerly of Braintree in this state, and who came to this place from Boston, Mass, when a young man about the time of the Revolutionary War. He was a cabinetmaker by trade, while business he pursued until his death, which occurred here in February A. D. 1813. Our information has always been (derived doubtless from him) that he was born at said Braintree in the latter part of the year 1750. Although I was quite young when he died, I distantly remember to have seen him in his last lickings, his disease was rheumatism from which he suffered so intensely that his appearance made a lasting impression upon my mind. After his death, his widow, my grandmother, left this place and went to live with her daughter, Martha, who was then living in Herkimer, N.Y. and there, as I have been informed & believe, she died. When I was quite young, all of my mother's brothers & sisters, with the exception of my uncle Samuel Veazie, removed to the state of New York, since which time I have known but little about them, save from hearsay, except Charles Veazie, my mother's brother, who is now living in Troy, N.Y.
My mother married for her first husband, John Murphy, of Schoharie, N.Y. and by him had but one child, myself. He died soon after, and my mother again married. The name of her second husband was Harvey Efner, how I understand is now living in Western New York. by him she had, as I am informed & believe, several children, some of whom are now living in that part of the country. After my mother's second marriage, I was adopted by her brother, my uncle Samuel Veazie, of this place, with whom I lived during my minority. He died in North Adams, Jun 2d A.D. 1848, aged sixty-seven years and ten months, never having had any children of his own.
Most of the descendants of my grandfather, John Veazie, are at present living in the western part of the state of New York.
