Between 1852 and 1862 Kentucky law required that all births, marriages, and deaths be recorded by the county in which they occurred. Afro-American deaths of Boone thru Boyle County, Kentucky, 1852-1862 is a short book by Gwendolyn Garrison Tippie that transcribes the death records of Black individuals from this time period in Boone, Bourbon, Boyd, and Boyle Counties. Both free and enslaved people were included in the records.
These profiles were built from the transcriptions in the Tippe book. Images of the original, handwritten records are available at Ancestry as part of their collection "Kentucky Death Records, 1852-1965." These are difficult to read, not indexed for enslaved people, and locked behind a paywall. The original records include cause of death, which Tippe did not transcribe. Researching and adding these would be a gentle introduction to the challenges of African-American genealogy for anyone interested in pursuing the topic.
