Adoption Angels Project

Alabama is an "open state" as of 2015. "An adult adoptee can get an original birth certificate and in some instances more adoption record information."[1]

This page is for Alabama resources to aid adoptees seeking information on their birth families/histories.

Birth Certificate

Upon finalization of an adoption a new birth certificate for the child is usually issued to the adoptive parents. The original birth certificate is sealed and then kept confidential by the State registrar of vital records. In many states the laws are changing to allow easier access.

The state of Alabama does make original birth certificates to adoptees once they've reached the age of 19.

To obtain a copy of your birth certificate, visit here. For more information on Alabama and adoptions visit their adoption information help page.
