This page is for the ship that brought the original Scottish settlers to PEI in 1772. It is a work in progress. This page may need to be changed as I capitalized Ship.

Some details of this ship can be found on page 26 of the book "Glenalladale Settlers 1772. The book follows the descendants of the March 1772 sailing. Description from this book are as follow:

"The outstanding item of preparation was to find a ship to carry the emigrants to their new home. On 6 March 1772, John freighted a vessel from John Buchanan & Co. of Greenock, Scotland - the brigantine Alexander, Foreign built, it measured 82'9" x 22'8" x 12'6" and had the Lloyd's shipping code of E2, for second-class ships which "although unfit for carrying dry cargo, were suitable for long distance sea voyages"; 2 signifying the condition of the equipment (anchors, cables, and stores) being less than Satisfactory.

The same information can be found in An Unstoppable Force: The Scottish Exodus to Canada By Lucille H. Campey
