I maybe the only Allen+Allen in this group. My father was Howard Lee Allen of Hart County, Georgia and my mother was Mildred Lee Allen of York County, SC. Yes, her maiden name was Mildred Lee Allen on her birth certificate and the same middle name and last name played havoc in obtaining my birth certificate. I can not find any connection for the families either.
My father's family comes from to Spotsylvania, Virginia and Benjamin Allen 1732-1800. He was a Revolutionary War soldier as was his son Joseph, also my ancestor. Here the history/information about Benjamin "goes cold" except on Wikitree where his father, Benjamin, and his mother Elizabeth are listed but no details. I have researched 8 sources but have hit a "brick wall" as to Benjamin Allen, 1732 ancestors.
My brick wall for my mother's family happens sooner in history. 3 gt grandfather, William M Allen (1820-1893) married Margaret Locke in Chester County, SC. Through Ancestry DNA I have found 2 sisters of William buried near-by but no information about his father and mother and, therefore, their origin. They were poor farmers and had 10 children. I have managed to find 4 of the children's descendants but no one knows anything about William. They help to build Harmony Baptist Church in Edgemoor, SC near his farm and is buried there. It is especially frustrating because his wife, Margaret Locke and her family are very well documented.
My question to the group is have you discovered any migration to SC or Ga by Virginia Allens or people with similar names to the ones I have listed? As we all know, names "travel" in families.
