History and Description of Alton Cemetery, Peel, Ontario, Canada
The Alton Cemetery has been in use since 1832 when it was created on land donated by Jas. ( James) McClellan.
Conversation with the Alton Cemetery steward provides this information: there were no records made of the names, birth dates or death dates for burials of people buried in this cemetery before 1927. The steward also confirmed that on some occasions, additional corpses often but not always children were included in a grave for someone else if a grave had already been dug for the other person. The ground where the cemetery is located is rock covered by a thin layer of soil, this made digging graves a difficult task.
