Amelia Utting's Brickwall Ancestors

This page isn't just for listing all of my ancestors without parents on WikiTree, but the ones that have proved particularly difficult to identify and trace.

Country Ancestor Estimate Location Research Process
John Roberts (b.1750s) Norfolk, England; likely in or near Wymondham. John Roberts married widow Rebecca Smith (née Butler) in Wymondham, Norfolk in 1776. I've so far been unable to find his death or any way to estimate his date of birth to uncover his baptism and parents.
John Staff (b.1760) Norwich, Norfolk, England John Staff was born to parents John and Susanna Staff, and baptised in Norwich in 1760. His mother was written as Susanna Ward (or Word), widow, in her marriage to his father earlier in 1760. There is little to go off of in working out when his father was born, or his mother, which first requires finding her maiden name prior to her first marriage, which has proven difficult.
Susannah Woods Norfolk, England or possibly Essex, England. Susannah is the wife of the aforementioned John Staff b. 1760. They married in Essex in 1780; though at first it was thought that this marriage was incorrect, given John's baptism in Norfolk and the fact all their children were born in Norfolk, one of her children died young and his mother was listed as "Susannah Woods Staff" in his burial; she also appears as Susannah Woods in the birth of her only child born after this child's death, so it can be assumed that the marriage is accurate. It has been near impossible to track down a baptism or birth parents for Susannah, given the possibility that she could have been born in either of two different counties.
Edmund Barnes (b.1760s) Norfolk, England Given his fairly common name, it has been difficult to determine which baptism correctly identifies the parents of this Edmund Barnes, who married Susanna Harper in Ranworth with Panxworth, Norfolk, in 1787.
George Watson (b.1790) Norfolk, England This George Watson was baptised in Topcroft, Norfolk, in 1790, the son of George and Elizabeth. His parents, George Watson and Elizabeth Harrison, were married earlier in 1790 in Topcroft. While Elizabeth was baptised in 1770, due to how common the name George Watson is it's proven hard to determine the identity of his parents.
William Blomfield (b.1760s) Norfolk, England In 1783, William Blomfield married Elizabeth Whiteman in Billingford, Norfolk, near East Dereham. They went on to have 18 children, all born in Sparham. Efforts to identify either William's parentage have proven difficult, with the name being fairly common in Norfolk.
Elizabeth Whiteman (b.1760s) Norfolk, England In 1783, William Blomfield married Elizabeth Whiteman in Billingford, Norfolk, near East Dereham. They went on to have 18 children, all born in Sparham. One baptism was initially identified as Elizabeth's, only for it to be found to belong to a girl who died at a young age and therefore could not have gone on to marry or give birth. It's proven difficult to find any further baptisms matching Elizabeth.
John Humphreys (b.1752) Monmouthshire, Wales John was born to parents Edmund and Hannah Humphreys in 1752 in Monmouth, Monmouthshire, Wales. His father Edmund died in 1760, but so far research has been unable to find a matching marriage for Edmund and Hannah in order to ascertain Hannah's maiden name, or records providing either of them with accurate dates of birth and parentage.
Mary Jones (b.1750s) Monmouthshire, Wales Mary married the above John Humphreys in 1778 in Monmouth, but given the commonality of her name, its almost impossible to determine her correct baptism and parents with any accuracy.
Mary Kendall (b.1799) Norfolk, England There are two possible births for Mary Kendall in Norfolk between 1798 and 1800. The first of these is a baptism in Guist, about 8 kilometres from East Dereham, on December 15 1799 to William Kendall and Mary Russel (often mistranscribed as Raphael). The second, is the birth of a base-born daughter of Mary Kendall on 7 March 1800 in East Dereham. Given how close these birthdates are, and the close distance, it is difficult to determine which of these baptisms belongs to this Mary Kendall who married Edmund Humphreys in Terrington St Clement in 1825.
