John "Jean" Gaston, b. about 1600, France, a Huguenot and a refuge that settled in Scotland, where he married and died. His wife's name is not known. Three of their sons moved to Ballymena, County Antrim, Ireland in the l 660 's.

We do not have any records of his descendants in America, there is some indication that some of them came to Canada

The Gaston ancestors of the descendants in America are descended from the Calvinistic Reformation in the Sixteenth Century and had to leave France. The first known Gaston in the British Isles was John "Jean" Gaston, bom about 1600, France. He married in Scotland. ::Three of his sons, John, William and Alexander, emigrated to Ballymena, County Antrim, Ireland in l660's.

One of these Scotch-Irish son's had a daughter that married Gavin MacArthur, whose son William MacArthur m. Malvina Stone and was the parents of The President of the United States, Chester Allen Arthur.

Another of the descendants of John Gaston, b. 1645, became Governor of Massachusetts, Hon. William Gaston, in 1874.
