The Smiths moved to a cabin in rural Robertson County. As the Cherokee in the area began attacking the whites, they packed a wagon and prepared to move to a nearby town. Before they could leave they were attacked. Mr. Smith fired through cracks in the logs, wounding some but began to run out of ammunition. Mary Ann ran to the wagon and got additional ammunition and returned to the cabin while being fired upon. She escaped injury. The attackers soon left. This attacked occurred in the Winter of 1837 - 1838 This story in in the U. of Texas, Arlington repository.
