Anderson County, Kentucky

History/Timeline

Anderson County was formed in 1827 from part of Franklin, Mercer, and Washington counties. It was named for Richard Clough Anderson Jr..

Government Offices

  • The first courthouse was a small two story brick structure built by Robert Logan in 1829 to 1830 at a cost of $3,000. The courthouse was destroyed by fire on October 26, 1859. * The second and present courthouse was constructed in 1860 to 1861 at a cost of $14,000. The courthouse was damaged by fire on April 15, 1915 and rebuilt at a cost of $39,146.
