Care must be taken in using this book as a source. It is clear that Emily Hawley knew and/or was in contact with many of her contemporaries within the family lines that she listed, but, there certainly are some very serious errors, such as in the Wood line, where she collapsed two generations of men, Preserve Wood and his son Preserve Benedict Wood, leaving out Mercy benedict who was the wife of the elder (mother of the younger) and listing the elder as married to his daughter-in-law Eunice Merwin and as the father of the generation who were actually his grandchildren.

Do you know where the correct Wood line has been published?

Alas, Hawley's mistake has been endlessly repeated, even in publications that are generally pretty reliable, such as Merwin Family in North America. I have seen a few trees on ancestry.com where other researchers have also noted the error and show the line correctly, but I have not seen it in print.

I have adopted several of the relevant profiles here, added the missing man, Preserve Benedict Wood (1785-1849) and I am working on the profiles; one of them was citing this work, and that is what led me to comment here.
