Three Samuel Wilcocks/ons of Killingworth, when did they die?

There are in the early Killingworth, Connecticut, records three Samuel Willcocks/ Wilcoksons (and variant spellings). They are fairly easy to distinguish, three generations, a man, his son, and his grandson. The eldest Samuel [1] married Ruth Wascott 1 Jan 1696 and married a second time Katherine Dutton 25 April 1734. The son Samuel [2] married Mary Stevens 8 Nov 1720. The grandson Samuel [3], son of Samuel [2], was born 25 Jan 1723. There is no record of his marriage. There is only one death date listed in the Killingworth Vital records "Samuel Willcocks Jr. died 24 June 1746, and one set of probate documents which clearly state the subject died 24 June 1746. Distribution of his estate, 4 April 1749, was made to only two children, Giels and Mary.

Killingworth land records contain many grants and land transaction starting in 1688 concerning Samuel Willcoxson [1]. In 1718, in addition to records for Samuel [1], sometimes referred to as Samuel Willcocks Sr., there are also records for Samuel Willcocks "Jr." [2] who was born in 1696. During the years 1739 to 1744 there are references to Samuel Willcoks the second, instead of Samuel Jr., since Samuel [3] was now an adult

Nathaniel Chaffee, son of Thomas by an unknown mother was probably born in Nantasket (Hull), Massachusetts, between about 1638 and 1642.[18]

The Chaffe family moved from Hull to Rehoboth about 1660. In 1667 the Wannamoiset section of Rehoboth became the town of Swansea.

19 May 1670 Nathaniel Chafy was chose Constable [CG cites Swansea Town Records]

HIs ear mark was a half ring in the top of each ear.[CG]

1672; "The bounds of the Lands of Nathaniell Chaffe are Sixty acres of land purchased of Obediah Bowen, Sur., Also Twelve and a half. Ten acres More purchased of John Martin" This property was later part of Attleborough.[CG The Book of the Attleborough Records of the North Purchased Lande belonging to Rehoboth]

5 Feb 1672/3 Nathl and Joseph Chafy and other "meadow" owners agreed to buiild a fence.[CG citing Proprietos Records Ancient Swansea pp 16, 17]

22 Jan 1673/4 Nathaniel Chafey and Joseph Chafey and other "meadow" owners agreed that moable grass adjoining their meadow should be for the proprietors use. [CG citing Proprietos Records Ancient Swansea pp 16, 17]

8 Feb 1674/5 The town of Rehoboth agreed to encourage Nathaniel to return offering him 10 acres of land if he would stay seven years. [CG Rehoboth Records]

16 June 1675, Nathaniel Chaffe of the Township of Rehobeth, New Plymouth, New England, smith, sold land in Swansea. CG cites Plymouth Colony Deeds Vol V p 308.

9 April 1685 Lots were drawn for a land division. Nathaniel's estate was 50 acres and he drew lot number 76.[Rehoboth Reocrds.]

12 Oct 1686 Nathaniel Chaffee proposed to the town for the maintenance of George the First (huh)

8 Feb 1686/7 he purchased two acres

22 Mar 1693. Chosen Tythein man. [Ibid]

1694 Nathaniel witnessed his brother, Joseph's, will and was surety for the administrators bond.

Thomas Chaffee of Swansie wrote his will in 1680, proved in 1683. He named only two sons Nathaniel (eldest) and Joseph (executor) leaving them both generously provided for in land and goods.[19][20]

It is said he was a farmer and fisherman. His inventory was taken 11 or 15 May 1683. (There are two copies in the records with different dates.) He owned land, animals and a great bible. There is no evidence that he was a fisherman, but several things (crosscut saw, axes, logchaine, draught chain & whipletree, handsaw, drawing knife, adz, wedges, and bill hook) that indicated he might have been a logger.[19][20]

It is believed that Joseph was buried in the ancient Chaffee burying ground located on his own farm. . The property is located on the west bank of the Barrington River, then called the Sowams River, and is about two miles northwest of Barrington, Rhode Island.[18]

Children, probably born in Nantasket, (now called Hull)[18]

  2. Joseph Chaffe, born about 1639-1646; m. Annis Martin.

Jeremiah Peck

William Peck/Pecke

William Peck/Pecke was a settler, planter and founder of the New Haven Colony. Many of the original settlers were from London or nearby. Many of them sailed on the Hector from London to arrive in Boston, Massachusetts, 26 June 1637. Many genealogies state that William, a merchant from London was among this group, who subsequently traveled to the harbor of Quinnepiac (New Haven) in the spring of 1638. William, his wife and son could have been part of these groups, but there is no proof. He left no records in Boston, and when the founders of New Haven signed a "Fundamental Agreement" for governance of the Colony, 4 Jun 1639, William was not one of the original signers, but signed at a later date.[NHCR1 18]

William was admitted to the court at New Haven "29th of 8 M: 1640."[NHCR1 44]
