Region of Aosta Valley (Valle d'Aosta)

The Aosta Valley (Italian: Valle d'Aosta (official) or Val d'Aosta (usual), French: Vallée d'Aoste (official) or Val d'Aoste (usual), Arpitan: Val d'Outa) is a mountainous semi-autonomous region in northwestern Italy. It is bordered by Rhône-Alpes, France to the west, Valais, Switzerland to the north and the region of Piedmont to the south and east.

Covering an area of 3,263 km2 (1,260 sq mi) and with a population of about 128,000 it is the smallest, least populous, and least densely populated region of Italy.

Italian and French are the official languages, though much of the native population also speak Valdôtain, a dialect of Arpitan, as their home language. In 2001, 96.01% of the Valdostan population reported knowing Italian, 75.41% French, 55.77% Arpitan, and 50.53% all of them.

The regional capital is Aosta.

Aosta Valley is the only Italian region which has no provinces (the province of Aosta was dissolved in 1945). Provincial administrative functions are provided by the regional government. The region is divided into 74 comuni (communes).

i have made a free space page on what I have found while researching in Aosta. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:The_Region_of_Aosta_in_Italy My research at this point is primarily in the Gignod commune. Is it possible to add a catagory Gignod, Aosta, Italy. I have family from Allein, Etroubles and Gignod.

Hey, Betty.

That is a very nice free space page. I was wondering if it would be possibly to merge that page with this one here as it shares the similar points. As far as categories go, I would suggest talking with Isabelle Caruso about the creation of town categories. You can contact her here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Caruso-344

To avoid conflicts and confusion, we would like to merge your page into the pre-existing page. If you can add the Italy Project as a co-page manager, we can do the merge: [email address removed] Here is a screenshot to help with how to add the project as manager, after you've added it to the trusted list: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Italy#Project_Templates

Hi Betty-Lu

I created categories for the three municipalities. You can find them here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Aosta_Valley%2C_Italy

If you need categories of other municipalities, please message me and I can create them for you.
