The brig or bark Auguste and Meline was built in Vegesack.[1] The August and Meline sailed for the shipping company Johann Lange Sohns Witwe & Co, Bremen across all oceans.

In her early years, the captain of the bark was Kapitän Gerhard von Lübke, later Kapitän P. von Harten.[1]

Voyages

  • 1837: Bremen to New Orleans
  • 1848-49: Auguste and Meline, Immigrant Voyage to South Australia 1848-49. Sailed from Bremen on the 17th of December 1848 carrying emigrants to the South Australian Colony under Captain Gerhard von Lübke. Arrived at Port Adelaide on the 2nd of April 1849.
  • 1853: Bremen to New York (leaving in Bremen, December 1, 1853)
  • 1854: London to Sydney. Sailed from London on the 15th of May arrived at Sydney, New South Wales on the 15th of September, 1854 carrying 13 passengers.
  • 1855/56:
    • Mustered sailors on 12 Jul 1855 for a journey to London and Australia. On 18 Jul the bark lay ready to sail in the roads and went from the Weser river to sea the next day en route to London[1]
    • London to Melbourne and Geelong. Sailed on the 12th of August 1855 from London and arrived in Hobson's Bay in the Victorian Colony on the 26th of November 1855. (no passengers).
    • Arrived in Melbourne on 25 Nov 1855, took cargo on board and traveled to Shanghai in China, arriving at the Yangtsekiang river on 12 Feb 1856 and anchored at roadstead before Woosong.[1]
    • After four weeks the goods had been unloaded and new cargo had been taken onboard for a passage to Montreal, Canada. The ship left on 9 Mar 1856 and arrived after 162 days of travel in Montreal on 18 Aug 1856[1]
    • Sailed from Montreal on 25 Aug 1856 to Quebec, where the ship arrived on 8 Sep 1856.[1]
    • Took additional freight on board and left Quebec on 15 Sep 1856, arriving in London on 27 Oct and returned to Bremerhaven on 8 Nov 1856. Three days later arriving back in Bremen[1]
    • Sailed from Bremen on 13 Dec 1856 via Le Havre to San Francisco[1]
  • 1858: London to South Australia. Sailed on the 22nd of May 1858 from London, arrived South Australia the 21st of September 1858.
  • about 1859-63 Following years to East Indies, Straits Settlements and East Asia[1]
  • 1863: Mustered 12 sailors on 29 Sep 1863 for a journey to the East Indies and beyond[1]
  • 1864-1867: Additional travels[1]
  • Jan 1868: The shipping company sold the bark to Arendal.[1]
