This page is to document possible ancestral connections for triangulated groups that appear to be related to my BRITTON line from Fermanagh Ireland, awaiting further confirmation.

My earliest known ancestor is Catherine BRITTON daughter of an Anglican clergyman who renounced her faith and married a Roman Catholic, by the name of Captain Stephen CASSIDY. Her father was believed to be the military chaplain for the garrison at Fermanagh in the North of Ireland.

Several DNA matches are suggesting relationships between the various BRITTON families living in Fermanagh in the late 18th century. These DNA matches are yet to be confirmed. If you can help or wish to be added to the study, please contact Veronica Williams.

You can read more about my DNA research of Catherine BRITTON on my blog, please click here.

I am currently mapping the results of this work to DNA Painter, for a visual representation of possible segments handed down from our 'unknown' Patriarch Britton please click here.

Triangulated Groups/Confirmed Relationships

These people seem to be related. I have listed them by GEDmatch kit (where possible) and likely ancestor. We now believe that we have confirmed through DNA Triangulation that Catherine Britton, and James Britton are probably siblings.

Jane Britten, m Henry Brooks could also possibly be an elder sibling or perhaps an aunt. For the purposes of my analyses I am going to consider her as a potential sibling until further evidence emerges.

Chromosome 12 - Confirmed Relationship. Segment range 6.2 -12 - 3rd cousins, with confirmed paper trail to shared ancestor of George Britton supporting the genetic match.

  • T717072 - James Britton abt 1788 m Mary Laird, s Alfred
  • CC (tested at My Heritage) - James Britton abt 1788 m Mary Laird, s Andrew

Chromosome 12 - Triangulated groups. Segment range 11.9 - 24.5

  • T766864 - Catherine Britton bef 1788 m Stephen Cassidy, s Thomas, d Rebecca, d Mona;¬†
  • T545719 - Catherine Britton bef 1788 m Stephen Cassidy, s Thomas, d Rebecca, d Mona;
  • T439388 - Catherine Britton bef 1788 m Stephen Cassidy, s Thomas, s John;
  • A307608 - Jane Britten bef 1768 m Henry Brooks, d Rebecca, d Jane
  • A611205 - Jane Britten bef 1768 m Henry Brooks, d Rebecca, d Jane
  • CC (tested at My Heritage) - James Britton abt 1788 m Mary Laird, s Andrew

Chromosome 17 - Triangulated group, segment range 62.2 - 75.3 - The following three descendants have a confirmed paper trail to Britton ancestors from Boho, Fermanagh supporting the genetic match.

These additional people also seem to be related with triangulated matches with the above group, but no corresponding paper trail. Both have ancestors from the same area of Fermanagh. I have listed them by GEDmatch kit number and likely ancestor:

A number of other GEDmatch kits triangulate in the same area on chromosome 17. Please contact Veronica Williams if you are interested in more information about the group.

Emerging Groups

Other chromosome matches listed below are not confirmed or triangulated, but may be further evidence of these connections:

Chromosome 5 - Emerging group, segment range 116.2-124.1

Chromosome 10 - Emerging group, segment range 33.6-77.9
