The earliest known documented ancestors in the Baham lineage are Jean Baptiste Baham and his parents Jean Baam and Marie Stea. He is also known as Jean Bahans, Jean Baam, and Juan Baham.

Jean Baptiste Baham arrived in Mobile, West Florida on October 2 1764 where he signed a British Oath Of Allegiance. He married Francoise Guillory and they had five adult children: René, Joseph, Baptiste , Pierre and Louis .

They moved to Louisiana in 1782 after receiving a land grant from Spain. He then founded the town of Madisonville, Louisiana.

According to his will from 1807, he was born in Barsac, Gironde, Aquitaine, France. Barsac is a village near Bourdeaux and in the Aquitaine region. Back in the 1700s, this area was all part of Gascogne. The coordinates are 44 36 N, 0 19 W.
