Baker Plantation

Isaac Baker Sr. held land and enslaved people on his plantation on the northwest side of Big River in St. Francois County, Missouri, from at least 1830 until his death in 1862.[1] His first (or second?) wife, Anna D. Poston, died in 1841.[2] Isaac married Emily Ray in 1843.[3] He left his real estate and some of his slaves to Emily.

Property

Isaac Baker purchased property from James Bryan and wife Emily, of Perry Twp, St. Francois County, Missouri in 1822. The property was 300 arpents (about 252 acres, an arpent is a French term equaling about .84 of an acre), for $15. There were 16 acres improved acres on which the Widow Doggett lived. The land belonged to the heirs of Isaac Doggett.[4]
