The name Ballinahown is an anglicisation on the Irish Baile na hAbhann.

Ballinahown is located within the Civil Parish of Boystown in the Barony of Talbotstown Lower, County Wicklow, Ireland.
Ballinahown borders the following townlands:
- Ballyknockan to the south
- Ballynastockan to the east
- Boystown or Baltyboys Lower to the north
- Boystown or Baltyboys Upper to the west
- Lackan to the east
- Valleymount or Cross to the south
History
The entirety of Ballinahown and parts of the surrounding townlands are now submerged making up the Poulaphuca Reservour, known locally as the Blessington Lakes.
Between 1938 and 1940, 76 houses were demolished, and the bridges at Humphreystown, Baltyboys, and Burgage blown up, in anticipation of the flooding of the valley for the Poulaphouca hydroelectric power station.
Ballinahown had a population of thirty one in 1901, [2] thirty six in 1911, [3] and having been flooded now has a population of zero.
