Introduction

Ballinderry Civil Parish lies between Lough Neagh and Lisburn in County Antrim. Ballinderry parish has a total area of 44.7 km² or 17.2 square miles.
The main A26 road to Antrim crosses the parish from south to north as does the A30 from Lisburn to Glenavy. Other roads include the B12 road from Lurgan to Crumlin and B104 from Lisburn to Lower Ballinderry.
Ballinderry civil parish is in the historic barony of Massereene Upper. The Irish name is Baile an Doire meaning "townland of the oak wood".[1]
