Introduction

Ballintoy Civil Parish in North Antrim covers a rural area between Busmills and Ballycastle including part of the Causeway Coast AONB. Ballintoy parish has an area of 52.1 km² or 20.1 square miles.
The A2 coast road passes through from Bushmills towards Ballycastle. Several other roads pass through the parish including the B15 from Ballycastle which passes through Ballintoy village, the B17 from Bushmills towards Ballycastle, B146 past Giant's Causeway, and B147 to Ballymoney.
Ballintoy Civil Parish is in the historic barony of Cary. The Irish name is Baile an Tuathaigh which means 'townland of the ruler of the tuath'.[1]
