Introduction

Ballylinny Civil Parish is a small parish in East Antrim situated between Ballyclare and Newtownabbey. Ballylinny parish has a total area of 22.0 km² or 8.5 square miles.
The Six Mile Water River defines the north western edge of the parish. The main A8 road to Larne and the A37 road from Templepatrick to Ballynure pass through the parish. Smaller roads that pass through the parish are the B56 Ballyrobert Road, B59 Doagh Road, and the B94 Hillhead Road which heads south from Ballyclare.
Ballylinny civil parish is in the historic baronies of Belfast Lower and Belfast Upper. The Irish name is Baile Line meaning 'townland of the (river) Line'.[1]
