Introduction

This page is intended to serve as a place to keep track of notable Baptists from around the world. If you are interested in this project, please click here to be added to the trusted list for this page, so that you will receive a notification any time anybody edits the page or posts comments here. You can also contact me directly, or ask questions in G2G (just make sure you tag your questions with "Baptists").

The kind of people we are looking for may not be listed in Wikipedia or other general reference works, but have been important in Baptist history. They must be known as Baptists: evangelists, missionaries, pastors, or theologians may obviously have been known as Baptists, but lay Baptists who have had an influence on Baptist life can also be included.

Tasks

If you've put up all of the peple in your family (or at least all the ones you've found so far), and are looking for something else to do, here are some tasks that you might be willing to help with:

  1. Adding Profiles:
    • We need to make sure that each Notable Baptist listed in sources like Wikipedia, The Canadian Encyclopedia, The Dictionary of Canadian Biography, or books on Baptist History has profile on WikiTree.
      • Progress: 68/97 people = 70.1%
  2. Biographies:
    • We need to make sure that each Notable Baptist on WikiTree has a narrative biography containing all the genealogically relevant facts about them (birth, marriage, and death at the very least). For information on biographies, see the Biographies help page.
  3. Categories:
    • We need to make sure that each Notable Baptist on WikiTree has the appropriate categories applied to their profile. For information on categories, see the Categorization help page and the Categorization Project. Also, see the hierarchy of categories within the Baptists category to see if any of them apply.
  4. Connecting:
    • We need to connect all the unconnected profiles for Notable Baptists on WikiTree. (This can count towards the Connectors Challenge if you're feeling competitive.) For information on connecting profiles, see the Connectors Project.
      • Progress: 55/68 profiles = 80.9%
  5. Merging:
    • We need to merge any duplicate profiles for the same person into one profile for that person. For information on merging profiles, see the Merging help page.
  6. Sourcing:
    • We need at least one (and preferably more) sources added for all the Notable Baptist profiles on WikiTree. (This can count towards the Sourcerers Challenge if you're feeling competitive.) For information on sourcing profiles, see the Sources help page and the Sourcerers Project.
      • Progress: 53/68 profiles = 77.9%
  7. Baptists in Wikipedia:
    • Not all of the people listed as Baptists in Wikipedia fall within the purview of this project, but those who do need to have profiles on WikiTree, and those profiles need to be sourced and connected to the main tree.
      • Progress:
        • added: 36/41 people = 87.8%
        • sourced: 32/36 profiles = 88.9%
        • connected: 26/36 profiles = 72.2%
        • link to Wikipedia as a source on profile: 32/36 profiles = 88.9%
        • image on profile: 24/36 profiles = 66.7%
  8. Baptists in The Canadian Encyclopedia:
    • Not all of the people listed as Baptists in The Canadian Encyclopedia fall within the purview of this project, but those who do need to have profiles on WikiTree, and those profiles need to be sourced and connected to the main tree.
      • Progress:
        • added: 7/9 people = 77.8%
        • sourced: 7/7 profiles = 100%
        • connected: 7/7 profiles = 100%
        • link to The Canadian Encyclopedia as a source on profile: 2/7 profiles = 28.6%
        • image on profile: 5/7 profiles = 71.4%
  9. Baptists in The Dictionary of National Biography:
    • Not all of the people listed as Baptists in The Dictionary of National Biography fall within the purview of this project, but those who do need to have profiles on WikiTree, and those profiles need to be sourced and connected to the main tree.
      • Progress:
        • added: 9/10 people = 90%
        • sourced: 8/9 profiles = 88.9%
        • connected: 7/9 profiles = 77.8%
        • link to The Dictionary of National Biography as a source on profile: 4/9 profiles = 44.4%
        • image on profile: 5/9 profiles = 55.6%

Footnotes

  1. "Sourcing Level" is a measure of primary sources (birth, christening, census, military, marriage, death, or burial records) on a profile, up to a maximum of 3. If a profile has no primary sources, but does link to Wikipedia or some other secondary source, then it gets a sourcing level of 0.5. If you can find a(nother) primary source for a Notable Baptist, please add it to that profile (then edit this page to increment that cell).
  2. "Connected?" asks whether this person's profile has been connected to the main tree. If you see links at the bottom of the profile listing how many degrees that person is from the example profiles of the week, then their profile is connected to the main tree. (If so, please edit this page to put "Yes" in that cell.)
