History
Barbour County is located in north-central West Virginia, United States and was created from Lewis, Harrison, and Randolph counties on March 3, 1843, while still a county in Virginia, which later became West Virginia in June 1863. The county was named for the distinguished Virginia jurist and U.S. Congressman, Philip Pendleton Barbour. The county seat is Philippi, earlier called "Anglin's Ford" and "Booth's Ferry" was formed in 1843 and chartered in 1844. [1][2]

Geography
Barbour County is situated on the Allegheny Plateau at the western edge of the Allegheny Mountains and consists of mountainous terrain which is drained by the Buckhannon, the Middle Fork, and the Tygart Valley rivers. [1]
