About the Project
The Barnett Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Barnett name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Barnett name.
As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Barnett's), by time period (18th Century Barnett's), or by topic (Barnett DNA, Barnett Occupations, Barnett Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.
Also see the related surnames and surname variants.

Initially the project began as a Y-DNA study and we currently have 41 different, distinct Groups of Barnetts. In addition we have a total of 448 members in the project, including men and women who have taken the Y-DNA and/or the Famiy Finder Test (FTDNA's Autosoal test). You can visit our Project's Resullts Page and read about the project at the following link https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/barnett/about We also have second website where many of our Y-DNA members have contributed their lineages. That site is at https://barnettdna.micbarnette.com/ Clicking on the Groups list on the right side of the page of the second site will take you to the lineages for that group. The groups listed on that page correspond to the same Groups listed on the on the FTDNA Results Page referenced initially above . One caveat though. FTDNA is concerned with Privacy and information on those who have taken the Family Finder test are hidden and do not show on the project website. However, when one has taken the test and has joined the project an "advanced" search will reveal anyone in the project you might match genetically.
If you have taken an autosomal DNA test at most any Genetic Genealogy testing company you can "transfer" your "raw data" to FTDNA for free. This does not affect your test at your inital company it simply sends a copy of your test to FTDNA. There are some extra tools available for a $19 charge which include the chromosome browser. With the $19 tools you will have the exact same information anyone who initially tested with FTDNA has. Anyone taking a test at FTDNA including the free Transfer mentioned above may join any and every Surname or Geographic project at FTDNA and there are thousands. Personally, I am a member of about 50 different projects. Please visit our websites and if you have questions feel free to contact me at [email address removed]
