Heros of Rivière-Ouelle |
- "In October 1690 the English, anchored offshore near Rivière-Ouelle and six boats occupied by 150 men, approached the shore at high tide. Nearly forty people were on the alert and hidden in the woods, with their loaded rifles. When the English were within reach, Curé Francheville gave the order to fire. The crew of the first boat falls under the bullets, the others must turn back and the English are repulsed. They could not estimate the number of their assailants. In great panic and disaster, the soldiers returned to their ship. So Rivière-Ouelle was spared because of the group of Canadians and Amerindians who repudiated the English fleet. Phips went on his way to Québec City on October 16, he was defeated."[1][2]
