Background
Baynard's Little Edisto Plantation was a satellite property related to Prospect Hill. It may have included 212 acres originally granted to William Whippy in 1702. William Whippy deeded his property as gifts to his brothers Joseph, John and Robert Whippy in 1728.[1] William Whippy to Joseph Whippy in 1740.[2]
In 1796 there was a lease and release deed between Thomas Baynard, and William Baynard (his brother?) of Beaufort, for the 282 acre Little Edisto property.[3] In 1839 this property was being sold to William G. Baynard.[4] It contained approximately 400 acres with a small house for an overseer, diked fields, and quarters for up to 80 slaves.[5]
