The Beneventum Plantation,[1] was located in the Georgetown District of South Carolina. It was a rice plantation started by Christopher Gadsden about 1750.[2] Gadsden died in 1805 and the plantation was sold[3] to Legrand G. Walker. Walker died very young and the plantation was sold by his family in 1835 to John Julius Pringle.[4] Pringle died in 1843 and the plantation stayed in his family, going to his heirs.[5][2] Beneventum Plantation was also called the Black River Plantation by both Gadsden[6] and Pringle.[7]
