Goals
Tracing the Benton line has been a challenge to say the least. It seemed almost impossible to find information past my 5th great grandfather. What I discovered was not necessarily the lack of resources, it was the immense amount of inaccurate information that was steering me in the wrong direction. Only through the DNA of a Benton male have we determined which line we fall into exactly. I have concluded if the information was easy to find, it is most likely inaccurate.
- This is a One Name Study to collect together in one place everything about one surname and the variants of that name. The hope is that the lines can get properly traced and identified. If you have taken a DNA test and are from one of the Benton lines, please consider placing your results on your profile.
Acknowledgement
- I am from the Benton line that moved from South Carolina to Coweta, Georgia. My great-grandfather was Selby Macgruder Benton, his father James Andrew Benton, his father Andrew Hugh Benton, his father Jacob Benton. My grandfather, his sister and his brothers were born and raised in Habersham County, Cornelia, Georgia. I have had my DNA done on 23andMe and Ancestry. My GedMatch # is on my profile.
Please feel free to add your line of the Benton's as well.
