The Betts Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Betts name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Betts name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual team studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Bettses), by time period (18th Century Bettses), or by topic (Betts DNA, Betts Occupations, Betts Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

I'm trying to find out more about who my great great grandfather is

Hello cousins – – I am diving back into research on our ancestor, Francis Bettis Sr., and his ancestors and descendants. I am not certain if there is a team in the Betts name study in which I fit neatly. The group I regularly research are the Betts/Bettis out of Colonial Edgecombe, Craven, Johnston, and Cumberland counties in North Carolina, with many continuing on to Edgefield, South Carolina. I would love to collaborate with anyone knowledgeable on this subject. I would also like to be available to anyone with questions in this area that I may be able to answer. -Mark Stallings

Interestingly, I connect to your ancestor through my Betts line, but then it veers off to the Nichols and eventually to his wife. Maybe we can find other Betts in the neighborhood.
Interesting, I dont think my Betts line tie into the two gentlemen listed. Will keep an eye on this project to see if it expands in the future

I associate myself with this comment as sharing all these same interests: "I am a direct descendant of Silas Betts 1753-1738 - Norwalk, CT, British Colony. I am interested in the Betts family name and connected lines such as Wood, Wilson, McFarland, and Dietz. Among others. "
