The murder of Joe Boone. Joe Boone, age 56, was found murdered in his Montclair home in 1992, by his adopted son, Jeff Boone. Joe was found at the bottom of the stairs by the front door, blocking the entrance. The murder was done with a scalpel. Joe was preparing for work. Detectives said he was thought to be sitting at the dining room table, time estimated around 3:45 am. Detectives stated there was a struggle, the glass table was broken, his head had been nearly decapitated and he had 27 stab wounds. He managed to crawl up the stairs and was dragged back down. Nothing was stolen. No forced entry. Joe was a very cautious man and never let the doors go unlocked. Jeff Boone lived at the house but had an alibi. Jeff states he came in through the front door and found Joe dead and called 911. The detective states that is impossible since the paramedics couldn't even get in that was due to the body blocking the entrance. Many inconsistencies were found in Jeff's statement. Jeff's alibi is found several times on Jeff's voicemail, asking where he is. The fact that nothing was stolen raises eyebrows. Jeff had a bite mark on his hand but said a dog bite him. Why didn't the detectives check further into that bite mark? The detectives did ask his daughter, Toni Boone(myself) if Joe had a dentist or dental records. I had no knowledge of who his dentist was. Jeff's behavior at the funeral was without emotion. He brought friends with him ( the ones that my father did not care for) back for the funeral in Kentucky. Jeff joked about how he thought about getting a pink casket for him and wouldn't that just roll him over in his grave. As the casket was being put in the hearse, Jeff lit a cigarette and blew smoke rings. Jeff said he had papers with him for me, but would not answer his phone and had left early that morning without saying he was leaving. Jeff had a life insurance policy placed out on Joe 30 days before his murder and had managed to move his IRAs out of his account, along with all the money in his account. Nothing was done about that. About two months later, I had to go to CA. , to settle his estate, which I found bankrupt. The bank would not give out any information, even with a death certificate. The attorney that I found told me to go to the city corner's office and have the LA county take over. Which I did and the property was lost. Jeff gave me the security code to get into the condo and would turn around and change it, He left a postcard on the fireplace mantle with what looked like a knife imprint in blood and about it, it stated, " Simons Quest". After taking it to the police, it was found that the imprint was chocolate, not blood. Jeff would leave my grandfather's cane on the broken table. I would move it and he would put it back. Nothing was accomplished and I returned to Illinois. Nothing has been done. I have spoken to the detectives several times since the murder and the case is going to be reopened. Jeff moved away and is married.
