Borek began as a small settlement in 1805. It was apparently very impoverished as it was originally called Na Bídě (literally "on the misery"). The village was called Bída until 1924, although it did have the official name Borek in use since about 1870. In 1924 the name Bída was finally discarded because of its negative connotations.
