History/Timeline

Bourbon County was formed in 1785 from part of Fayette County, Virginia. It was named after the French House of Bourbon.

Government Offices

  • The original courthouse was destroyed by fire in 1872.
  • The second courthouse was built between 1786 and 1787.
  • The third courthouse was built in 1799.
  • The current and 4th courthouse was built in 1902 – 1905 on landscaped grounds in the center of Paris.
  • The County Judicial Center was built in Paris in 2002 – 2003.
