SATURDAY 16 MARCH 2024

On this day we gathered at Junee Ex-Services Club]. All Boyton descendants and their family members plus anyone else who was interested was welcome.

Check out some of the pictures from the day at the 2024 Boyton Family Reunion Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/841411341043585).

Boyton descendants and all of those interested in our Boyton ancestry and connections are also encouraged to join and discuss matters via the Boyton Family Genealogy Facebook group (https://m.facebook.com/groups/103376722458/?ref=sharehttps://m.facebook.com/groups/103376722458/?ref=share&exp=9594).

Background

In the 1800's there were three Boyton brothers from Clavering, Essex, who came to Australia:

  1. Richard Boyton (c.1811-1853) arrived as a convict in 1830
  2. William Boyton (c.1809-1874) arrived as a free settler in 1851
  3. Charles Boyton (1825-1861) also arrived as a free settler, in 1854

In 1984 there was a 'Boyton Family Muster' held at Campbelltown, New South Wales, for these brothers' descendants. 40 years later a group of us decided to hold a new gathering.

All BOYTON Descendants were Welcome

We also extended an invitation to any other Boyton descendants in Australia, whether or not there is a known relationship with any of the above men. This particularly includes those who are related to or interested in:

  • Descendants of Mary Ann (Boyton) Hagar (1806-1862) who was a first cousin of the above, arrived before 1860, and whose children and grandchildren appear to have ended-up in New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria.
Her children included:
#William Henry King (abt.1825-abt.1880) died at Millers Forrest, New South Wales
#Harriet (King) Piggott (abt.1829-1881) died at Dubbo, New South Wales
#Hannah (King) Law (1831-1911) died at Warwick, Queensland
#Louisa (Hagar) Bryant (1843-abt.1891) died at Waterloo, New South Wales
  • Descendants of Samuel Boyton (bef.1826-1855) who arrived in South Australia in 1854 and who are understood to still live around Gawler and Adelaide.
  • Descendants of John Boyton (c.1815-1881) and his family who hailed from Suffolk, England. He arrived in New South Wales 1858, and died around Clarence Town, New South Wales. His children and grandchildren appear to be spread across New South Wales

Publication

To assist everyone anyone who is interested in understanding aspects of their Boyton ancestry the organisers published a souvenir booklet. Physical copies were available to order before the reunion and to be collected on the day.
