This surname is derived from a geographical locality. 'of the broad-oak,' from residence thereby; compare Ash, Birch, Sc. A Lancashire-Yorkshire surname (v. Brideoake). Ralph Brideoake of Manchester (1613-78) became Bishop of Chichester. He was also known as Briddock, v. Dictionary of National Biography vi. 313. (a) Local, 'of Braddock,' a parish in Cornwall; but I do not find any representatives.
