Church Records
United First Parish Church: first gathered in 1636 as a branch of Church in Boston, was in Braintree until 1792, when the town of Quincy was split off from Braintree Official Website. Early baptism, marriage, and membership records (1672-1708) are printed in the New England Genealogical register vol 59 p87, p153, p269, p360. NEGHS has a database of Sprauge's transcription of Quincy Church Records, 1672-1870. Records are also avalible from a Family History Center under Church records, 1688-1848 [Quincy, Massachusetts ] and on Microfilm under Church records, 1728-1921 [Quincy, Massachusetts]. Congregational meeting Minutes are also available at the Mass Historical socity under First Church (Braintree, Mass.) records transcription, 1709-1766.
First Church of Braintree MA was created in 1708 after a dispute with the United First Parish Church over location, and became known as the "Southern Precinct church", then after the creation of the First Church of Randolph in 1728 "Middle Parish". When Braintree was split in 1793 it was the only one of the three congregational churches to remain in the new Braintree limits. Official Website.
