The British Sovereign made Numerous Voyages to the Australian Colonies in the 19th Century
This 491 ton barque British Sovereign was built in 1840 at Bishopwearmouth Panns in northern England. She made numerous voyages to the Australian colonies carrying both free immigrants and convicts in the 19th Century.
Including these voyages below as found on the Passengers in History website, the Perth Dead Persons Society and the "Passengers to Port Phillip from Southern England & Ireland 1849-51" website.
Departing from London for Hobart Town arriving Tuesday, March 17, 1841 carrying convicts. (via Dublin)
Departing from London on Monday, April 12, 1847 - arriving at Port Adelaide on Friday, July 16, 1847. Captain J. Cow. (via Plymouth)
Departing from Plymouth February 17, 1849 - arriving at Port Adelaide on June 2, 1849. Captain Phillip Deslandes.
Departing from London on Monday, March 11, 1850 - arriving at Port Adelaide on Tuesday, June 11, 1850. Captain Charles Harris. (via: Plymouth)
- Not to be confused with the barque of 351 tons of the same name under Captain Jones, which left Sydney on 8 January 1847, and New Zealand, on a sandalwood voyage. The vessel was wrecked off Efate Island, New Hebrides, 22 April 1847. The Master and most of the crew were murdered by natives. The last of the survivors were rescued by the Clarkstone, a whaling ship of Sydney under the captaincy of Captain Nixon. Passengers in History
