Welcome to the Australia Project's Notables in Sport: Australian Rules Football Brownlow Medal Winners.

The Charles Brownlow Trophy, better known as the Brownlow Medal (and informally as "Charlie"), is an annual award (since its inception in 1924) for the fairest and best player in the Australian Football League (AFL), formerly the Victorian Football League (VFL) over the home and away season.
Acknowledged as the highest individual honour in the sport of Australian Rules Football, it was created in honour of and named for Charles "Chas" Brownlow, a former Geelong Football Club footballer (1880–1891), club secretary (1885–1923), and VFL president (1918–19), not long after his death.

See Brownlow Medal (Wikipedia).
