About the Project
The Buckner Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Buckner name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Buckner name.
As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Buckners), by time period (18th Century Buckners), or by topic (Buckner DNA, Buckner Occupations, Buckner Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Task List
Ideally, this project should connect pre-Colonial America, however at this time the focus is primarily in the U.S.
- Identify all originating Buckner arrivals to North America - my family history thus far shows William Buckner (abt.1638-aft.1665), and we are still firming up some portions of that line.
- There were several Buckners involved in both Revolutionary and Civil Wars, all of these need to be identified and linked.
- Identify duplicated and conflated profiles, add sources to unsourced.
- Migration patterns - many Buckners ended up in North Carolina from post-war land grants, and from there dissipated to Indiana, Kentucky, Georgia and...(?)
Buckner Colonists in America
- 1628-1660
(To verify sources and connect to ancestors and descendants)
- Charles Buckner (abt.1628-1684)
- Anthony Buckner (1628-1693)
- John Buckner (1630-bef.1694)
- Thomas Buckner (1632-1703)
- William Buckner (abt.1638-aft.1665)
- Philip Buckner (abt.1640-bef.1700)
- Anthony Buckner (abt.1645-abt.1689)
There are a few unsourced/possibly conflated/duplicated Buckners in this period, which is another task to add to the list.
