Purpose: The Congregation CIB is used to define Religious Congregations. The term congregation was chosen since it is a relatively neutral term that applies to a group that has come together for some purpose, especially worship. It has been used for this purpose by many faiths. It is understood that some religions have added their own specific meanings to the word. We are using the first definition at Wikipedia. While congregation may have some translation issues in some languages, we can use a more language appropriate term in specific foreign language streams to counter that for those languages.

In its basic form, it can be used to categorize a church, a Quaker meeting or other religious gathering. The religious affiliation of the congregation is a parameter in the CIB. The affiliation (denomination) is a text field. Since many of these congregations run schools or have a cemetery, the CIB also supports linking to those entities. The Cemetery CIB may have a reciprocal link back to the Congregation. A typical CIB would use most of the parameters. Other parameters are defined in a table below. Note that church polity or hierarchy is not included. While some have argued that the polity is needed in order to know where records are kept, this is not actually the case. The polity doesn't specifically mention archives and it would still be necessary to research each denomination in order to know where each one sends records for archiving.

A second aspect of the proposal is that the category structure for denominations will be removed. With the CIB affiliation parameter they are not necessary and have been a source of confusion. The goal is to simplify creating and using this type of Religious Category.

Where an existing Project has a well established structure, that structure will be left in tact and this one built in parallel. At present, only the QUaker Project has such a structure.

The category structures would look like:

{{CategoryInfoBox Congregation
|name=
|aka=
|parent=
|project=
|location=
|address=
|affiliation=
|cemetery=
|school=
|coordinate=
|wikidataID=
|webpage=
|webpagetext=
|spacepage=
}}

An example: to illustrate the basic usage of this CIB: A Congregation is placed within the Location hierarchy. This parallels the way Cemeteries work. For example, Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Longmont, Colorado would be defined by:
{{CategoryInfoBox Congregation
|name=St. John the Baptist Catholic Church
|aka=
|parent=Boulder County
|project=Religion
|location=Longmont, Colorado
|address=323 Collyer St.
|affiliation=Roman Catholic
|cemetery=
|school=St. John the Baptist Catholic School, Longmont, Colorado
|coordinate=40.165067297755, -105.09886159361
|wikidataID=
|webpage=https://johnthebaptist.org
|webpagetext=St. John the Baptist Catholic Church
|spacepage=
}}

The example given says
Name: St John the Evangelist Anglican Church (also known as St John the Evangelist Church of England)
Affiliation: Roman Catholic
Which is clearly nonsense.

Hi,

I had a idea that hit me yesterday why don’t we make a free page. Name it something like Methodist Church conferences. We explain what a conference is and it function in church history. Then we can list the ones that are out there. One page for all link the page to my Methodist project. And put in page this only for referencing conferences and maybe supply ways to look up information on various conferences. Leave it open for people to ask questions and we all can learn about various conferences. I coming across bunch subprojects that were made already this way we can keep track of the ones made easier, I put section on my page so we can start to gather them there. This way if the list get long with what I seeing it may lol. We not clustering up the Methodist page. If you look at page you will see various minsters subcategories the list long. Just looking at breaking up some stuff but yet give valuable information for people to search by. And if anymore made they can list them there in future. Just idea for Conference problem and we can make list we find that not included too.

Is there an example of this in actual use?
