About the Project

The Cadoret Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Cadoret name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Cadoret name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (Bretagne France Cadoret's), by time period (9th Century Cadoret's), or by topic (Cadoret DNA, Cadoret Occupations, Cadoret Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Also see the related surnames and surname variants.

Battle of Cadoret In the year 1345 was recorded in Histoire de Bretagne, and indicates the battle was fort over the ford in the river in "landes de Cadoret" during the war of succession of Brittany.

Still trying to find a copy of this tome for validation. I suspect it will show up eventually in the Gallica collection of Bibliotheque Nationale de France. When visiting the chateau in Josselin, France, I think I saw a copy of the "histoire" on a shelf in the library.... Unfortunately that was out of bounds...

Currently in the hamlet of Cadoret there is a lock on the canal to allow navigation. The tow path is now used for walking and bicycling. There is also a Cadoret Bar, and Moulin du Cadoret which makes really good gallets and crepes!

Gary German (2013) Centre de Recherche Bretonne et Celtique.

In this paper the origin of the name Catuuoret is explored and documented. The name Cadoret evolved from the old Breton version Catuuoret recorded in the Cartulary of Redon in 832 AD. It is listed as a type 5 name on page 7 of this paper. The translation is listed as Battle Protection.

Bertrand Yeurc'h Academia.EDU This paper discusses the lineage of Oscand le Grand. Found it interesting as he is the grandfather of Cadoret, a son of Rudalt. Paper cites mentions of Orscand II in monastic writings.
