March 20.
Westminster.

Whereas the mayor, constables and company of merchants of the staple of Calais lent the king 2000l. for payment of the wages of Henry, viscount of Bourghchier, Ralph, lord of Sudeley, and others appointed for the safe-keeping of the town and castle of Calais and the tower of Rysbank; the king has granted, by advice and assent of the lords spiritual and temporal and the commonality in the present parliament and by the authority thereof, to Thomas Thurland, William Thurland, John Williamson of Louth, William Tuliot, John Ryvelyng, Henry Williamson, Robert Ricard, William West, Richard Barbour, John Rede, Robert Northrop, John White, William Glaston, William Shadworth, John Smyth and John Bluet, merchants of the said company, that they may ship in the port of Boston as many sacks of wool and as many [sacks of] 240 woolfells, whereof the subsidies amount to 2500 marks, and retain 13s. 4d. of the subsidy on each sack and each 240 woolfells in payment of 1000 marks, parcel of the said 2000l.; provided that this grant prejudice not the grant of 20s. for Calais, to wit, of 6s. 8d. thereof for payment of the ancient debt to Humphrey, duke of Buckingham, due by the king, and 13s. 4d. for payment of soldiers and the king's works there.

The like to John Pygot, William Broune, Richard Sapcote, William Judde, James Waren, Richard Prodhomme, John Broune, William Wyggeston and Nicholas Mattok, like merchants, to the sum of 1000 marks in the port of Ipswich in satisfaction of 400 marks, parcel of the said sum of 2000l.

The like to Thomas Thurland, John Thrisk, William Stokton, Hugh Cliderhowe, John Hodleston, John Holme, William Bracebrigge, Thomas Picowe, John Rudde, John Everard, William Kyng, John Marshall, John Argent, Thomas Stephenson of Tetnay and Nicholas Bedford, like merchants, to the sum of 3000 marks in the port of Kyngeston upon Hull in satisfaction of 1200 marks, parcel of the said sum.

The like to Robert White, William Combes, Robert Horne, John Walden, John Felde, John Malvern, Richard Sely, John Tate, John Pulter, John Grafton, Thomas Stone and John Harowe, like merchants, to the sum of 1000 marks in the port of London in satisfaction of 400 marks, parcel of the said sum.
