Westminster.

Whereas Robert White, late the mayor, and the company of merchants of the staple of Calais, and their predecessors lent the king at divers times the sum of 10,700l., to which William Cantelowe, Alan Johnson and Thomas Cantelowe, merchants of that company, contributed 832l. 18s. 10d., whereof they have received no payment, the king, by advice and assent of the council, has granted to the said William, Alan and Thomas that in each year during a term of four years after the morrow of Martinmas next they may ship in the port of London as many sacks and cloves of wools and woolfells, whereof the subsidies amount to the sum of 208l. 4s. 8½d. a year beyond the 20s. of subsidy on the same appointed for Calais by authority of Parliament, and carry the same Calais, and that they may retain such subsidies; provided that the collectors of customs in the said port make indentures between themselves and the said merchants testifying to the weight of such wools and the number of such woolfells and the sums to be retained by them herein, by which indentures the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer at Westminster shall discharge the said collectors from the said sums; and the chancellor and the keeper of the privy seal shall deliver to the said merchants the necessary writs and warrants.
