Biography

In 1844 Duncan Cameron and son Paul C. Cameron gather slaves from their North Carolina plantations to send them to Alabama. In 1845 Duncan Cameron completed his purchase of 1674 and 59/100 acres in Green Co, AL.[1] This new property was to be a cotton plantation.

After the Civil War was over these slaves were emancipated. Paul C. Cameron, through his nephew Thomas Roulhac, began to sell portions of his plantation land. Many of those previously enslaved chose to stay, and some were able to purchase some of this land for themselves. One of those who first purchased property was Sandy Cameron. Brothers Paul and Jim Hargis also purchased some of the Cameron property that they had been enslaved on.[2]
