Surname/tag: Cape_cod
The goal of this project is to discuss sources of genealogy information for people with ancestors from Cape Cod (Barnstable county) Massachusetts- don't forget, there is a county named Barnstable, which has the Town of Barnstable which has 8 villages, one village is named Barnstable and another village is called West Barnstable. Cape Cod is basically coextensive with Barnstable County. One argument that is raised is the Cape Cod only consists of the land east of the Cape Cod Canal- Barnstable County however, also includes the bit of land west of the canal that is in the Town of Bourne.

Cape Cod libraries, historical societies, vital records and cemeteries (by town)
The towns of Barnstable County and the Islands are exceedingly rich in library resources. Each town has at least one library—Dennis has five—for a total of thirty-seven libraries on Cape Cod. Martha’s Vineyard boasts six libraries, and Nantucket has one. Most of these libraries are members of the CLAMS (Cape Libraries Automated Materials Sharing) network, whereby the reader or researcher who is a member of one of these libraries may borrow books from any of the libraries and have access to the digital resources of all of them. In some cases a library card is not required.
[Note: The libraries listed below in alphabetical order by town name; those listed without collection descriptions have smaller genealogical collections. Many libraries also have library subscriptions to Ancestry.com and HeritageQuest On-line. Some also subscribe to Americanancestors.org (New England Historic Genealogical Society Database)]. Most have access to the Commonwealth Catalog, Fold3

NEHGS: The best way to find information in this database is to use the NEHGS search tool- Massachusetts Vital Records or Leonard Smith's index (see below) but the records can be browsed page by page for gleaning information that is not in the index. - Yarmouth Vital Records of Yarmouth Massachusetts to the Year 1850 -Compiled by Robert M. Sherman and Ruth Wilder Sherman, Published by the Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Rhode Island. c. 1995 - Note: Includes index.
- Physical Description: 2 v. (vii, 966 p.) : maps (on lining papers) ; 24 cm.
- Only five percent of the Yarmouth Vital Records have previously appeared in print. In preparing these two volumes, we transcribed the records from microfilm, comparing our first 43 pages with George E. Bowman's transcriptions in the Mayflower Descendant. The Yarmouth town books were destroyed in a fire about 1674. Records of only a few events prior to that date appear in the earliest book, book 3. Records from all town books containing vital records prior to 1850 were copied: books 3, 4, 7, 8, 18, 20, 21 and Register Vol. 1.
