Caroline County

Caroline County was formed from Essex, King and Queen, and King William Counties in 1727. It was named after Queen Caroline of Brandenburg-Ansbach, wife of the then reigning King, George II of Great Britain.

After the county's formation, additional land was added to Caroline County in 1742 and 1762 from King and Queen County.

The Caroline county seat is Bowling Green. Caroline is part of the Richmond, Virginia Metropolitan Statistical Area.
