Introduction
Case Bianca Plantation was owned by Joseph Mills White, Theophilus Beatty, and Eleanor Katherine Adair White Beatty.
The first plats of land of Casa Bianca were purchased in 1826 from the United States of America.[1]
In 1827 Joseph Mills White transported 10 slaves from New Orleans to Florida for work on the Casa Bianca plantation or as personal attendants for his family. [2]
Also in 1827, Richard Henry Wilde arranged to purchase about 30 of the remaining captives from the illegal slave ship Antelope to bring them to Casa Bianca plantation. [3]
In 1828 Joseph Mills White purchased slaves owned by President James Monroe (1758-1831) and brought them to Casa Bianca Plantation from Highland plantation in Albemarle county Virginia[4]. The original enslaved population at Casa Bianca had a heavy male bias. But their numbers steadily grew over time: 60 in 1830, 94 in 1844, and 126 in 1859.[5]
In 1831 Richard Henry Wilde gave Joseph M. White the power of attorney to manage or sell the lands and slaves of Casa Bianca. They owned about 30 slaves. Richard Wilde was residing in Florence, Tuscany, Italy at the time. Joseph M. White was a delegate to the US Congress, representing the territory of Florida.[6]
Joseph White's brother, Everett White, died in 1835, and slaves from his estate were eventually re-purchased and brought to Casa Bianca. [3]
In 1836, Richard Henry Wilde's interest in the land of Casa Bianca was sold to James K. Anderson.[7]
In 1837, Joseph M. White used the Casa Bianca land to secure a $10,000 loan from Richard H. Wilde.[8]
In 1844, Theophilus Beatty used the Casa Bianca land and slaves to secure an $8000 loan from William Bellamy.[9] The loan was paid off on January 1, 1852[10]
In 1847 Theophilus Beatty used some of the Casa Bianca land as collateral for an unpaid debt.[11] The loan was paid off on April 2, 1849.[12]
In 1852 Ellen A Beatty mortgaged 40 acres of land on the south side of the public Road leading from Monticello to Baileys Mills ebraced in the E½ of the NW¼ of Sec. 26 in T2N R4E[13] The loan was paid off in 1853. [14]
In January, 1856 Ellen A Beatty signed an agreement with J Patton Anderson in which Anderson agreed to pay Beatty's debts (estimated at $5,000) and assume management and responsibility for Casa Bianca Plantation and all its appurtenances and slaves, except for six slaves (George, Rebecca, Ann, Charles, Alice and Peter) which she reserved for her own use. Anderson was to assume residence on Casa Bianca in 1857 and along with his wife, live together with Beatty as mother and son. Anderson also agreed to pay Beatty a sum of $4,000 per year.[15] Along with the agreement is an inventory of slaves included. The list names 121 slaves.[16]
In 1860 Ellen A. Beatty sold Casa Bianca Plantation and the majority of its slaves to Robert W. Williams[17]
In February of 1860 Ellen A. Beatty sold 38 remaining slaves to J. Patton Anderson[18]
