Introduction

This profile is part of the Edisto Island, South Carolina One Place Study.

Cassina Point Plantation, originally known as Hopkinson House, was built in 1847 as a wedding present for James Hopkinson (1810 - 1875) and Carolina Lafayette (Seabrook) Hopkinson (1825 - 1879).[1]

Cassina Point Plantation was the third plantation created by the Seabrook family on Edisto Island. A cotton plantation, Cassina Point was named after the cassina bush which grows in the area.

Backed up to a tidal creek that flows into the Dawhoo River, Cassina Point provides a view of Oak Island Plantation across West Bank Creek.
